Interesting Facts on Dogs: The Labrador Retriever

Descended from dogs taken to Newfoundland by explorers, fishermen and settlers, the Labrador was used to retrieve and drag in the ends of fishing nets to the men on shore.

In the early 1800’s the breed was introduced to Britain, where it was further developed to become the strong, sturdy retriever we know today. A powerfully built, short-coupled, active dog, he has an easily maintained short, straight dense coat, with weather-proof under-coat.

Highly versatile and eager to please his master, he is reliable, obedient and easy to handle and train. Fond of children, he makes an excellent house dog.  He excels as a field dog, enjoys outdoor exercise and is fond of swimming.
