Interesting Facts on Dogs: The Pekingese

The Pekingese originate from China and in ancient times held sacred and reached its peak as a Royal dog in the middle of the 19^th Century. The breed dates back to the Tang Dynasty of the 8^th Century but was first seen outside China in 1860 when five royal dogs found during the looting of the summer palace in Peking were taken to Britain.

Self-important the Pekingese carries himself with dignity, and is small and thickset, with a large, broad head, large dark eyes and a short body low to the ground.

He has a dignified rolling gait and a coarse, long straight coat with profuse mane and feathering over a thick undercoat.
