Interesting Facts on Dogs: The Pekingese

The Pekingese originate from China and in ancient times held sacred and reached its peak as a Royal dog in the middle of the 19th Century. The breed dates back to the Tang Dynasty of the 8th Century but was first seen outside China in 1860 when five royal dogs found during the looting of the summer palace in Peking were taken to Britain.

Self-important the Pekingese carries himself with dignity, and is small and thickset, with a large, broad head, large dark eyes and a short body low to the ground.

He has a dignified rolling gait and a coarse, long straight coat with profuse mane and feathering over a thick undercoat.

This is a true companion and friend. I have one and her name is Maxi – she posed for the photo.
